2. Damage-prone areas: wheels, windscreen, mirrors, bumpers, awning and other vulnerable areas photographed.
3. Existing damage: scratches, dents, cracks or defects captured with close-up and wider context photos.
4. Rental-company record: important existing damage reported using the rental company’s required process and, where possible, acknowledged.
5. Dashboard proof: odometer, fuel level and relevant warning lights or readings photographed.
6. Systems check: water, toilet, fridge, heating/hot water, power, windows/locks and fitted accessories checked or demonstrated.
7. Return rules: return time, fuel level, cleaning/waste requirements and damage-reporting process understood.

One extra habit that can make your evidence much clearer
